Chat context: say it once.
A free-text field for standing guidance to the agent, at two levels: personal context that follows you everywhere, and website context shared by everyone working on that site. Read at the start of every chat and every automation run.
There are things you say to the agent in every conversation. Write in British English. Our audience is procurement leads, not developers. Never recommend removing the pricing page. Until now you said them again each time. Chat context lets you say them once.
Chat context is a free-text field for standing guidance. There are two of them: one for you, one for each website. Whatever you write there is read at the start of every chat and every automation run, before the first message.
Two levels
- Personal context, in your own settings. How you like to work: the format you want answers in, the level of detail, what to skip. It follows you across every site you have access to and nobody else sees it.
- Website context, in the website’s settings. What everyone working on that site should have in hand: brand voice, target audience, markets that matter, pages that are off limits, the house style for headlines. It applies to every chat on that site, from every team member, and to every automation scheduled against it.
What to put there
The best context is short and specific. A few sentences beats a page. Some of what our own team has written:
- “Reports are read by the CMO. Lead with the business impact, keep the SEO detail for the end.”
- “Brand voice: plain, confident, no exclamation marks. We say ‘customers’, never ‘users’.”
- “Prioritise the Danish and Swedish markets. German pages are maintained by an agency and should not be rewritten.”
For longer material - full brand guidelines, tone documents, product sheets - the knowledge base is still the right home. Chat context is the standing note on top of it: the things that should shape every answer, not the reference library the agent looks things up in.
Try it
You will find Chat contextin your personal settings and in each website’s settings. Write two or three sentences, open a chat, and notice what you no longer have to say.
If you find a piece of context that changed how the agent works for you, we would love to hear it at hello@morrison.app.
